What was tested
Powered by a 6.7-liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel, almost a $9K option. The overhead-valve V8 has an impressive 440 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 925 pound-feet of torque at 1,800 rpm. It sits on an all-new steel frame, which is 350 pounds lighter and 24 percent stiffer than the previous model. The test truck had the standard six-speed automatic transmission and an optional 3.55 electronic locking differential. You can engage Four-wheel with a simple knob on the dashboard (nice feature).
Passing power is not a problem with plenty of acceleration — even at higher speeds it pulls you back into the seat. For a truck the quite ride is a pleasant surprise in this Ford! The truck averaged 14 mpg during the week of putting 350 miles on it – 200 of which were on the highway.
The interior is luxurious and quiet. Engine noise is almost non-existent inside the cabi and you really can’t tell it’s a diesel.
You can get a platinum interior package that adds leather, heated and cooled front seats and rear heated seats with dual-zone climate controls The stereo is a 10-speaker Sony audio system and also features a blind-spot monitoring system that is made to also see a the truck and trailer. You also get navigation that’s easy to use. The base price is just north of $62,000
